Welcome to 3/4B with Mr Brook. 3/4B is a Stage 2 class, consisting of 15 Year 3 students and 14 Year 4 students. I endeavour to ensure that all my students feel comfortable and supported in my class, this enables them to feel comfortable taking educations risks, getting out of their comfort zone and developing a growth mindset.

Students are encouraged to set personal goals throughout the year and every year I set a special goal for myself, which is to inspire the children in developing a love of reading. I believe all things are possible with the inspiration of the right book. My secret weapon to show children that reading is fun, is the hilarious and heartfelt books of David Walliams, which I find never fail to elicit a passion for reading. In addition to Mondays’ spelling homework, if you could also read with your child, this greatly helps children in becoming readers themselves, as kids often copy their grown-ups.

This semester we will be focusing on developing our creative and persuasive writing skills, in order to give our Year 3 students plenty of confidence going into NAPLAN. In maths we will be working hard on fundamentals, including demystifying division, and we’ll begin looking at real life math investigations. Our science focus is Material World, and our history focus is First Contacts.

In addition to these Key Learning Areas, Stage 2 will also be developing their independence through various AVID strategies. We will be using AVID in order to teach our students to ‘Move up through their own hard work’. Our first focus for this is organisation, and their book and stationery packs have already helped greatly with this.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all as the year progresses. If you need to contact me, you can do so via email, Class Dojo or by calling the front office on 43521116.
