Welcome to Class 3/4E. The name of the class (E) stands for my given name (Elizabeth) – this is because M for my family name was already taken 😊 and the school years. Our class is a Stage 2 class with a mix of Year 3 and Year 4 students. The students are getting ready for a year of educational and personal growth.

As the class teacher I encourage students to read daily (at school and at home) to promote fluency and comprehension, to increase their vocabulary and to develop a love of discovering something new every time they open a book. A word, an idea, a new way of looking at things or a new fact.

Homework – is set and sent home each Monday. Home reading is included as part of homework. If you, as a parent/carer read with or discuss your child’s reading with them, it would be appreciated. Spelling work is set each Monday and addresses the many sound patterns our English language incorporates. Mathematics activities will also be a part of your child’s homework. Any completed homework will be collected on Fridays.

Mathematics - Students will use mathematical games, ignition activities, technology and hands-on materials to complement the explicit teaching of key mathematical strands including: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability.

Science - this semester – Material World - focuses on how solids and liquids change state and the properties of natural and processed materials. Students investigate how different properties of materials and have the opportunity to develop a design solution to an identified need or opportunity, using a variety of materials. Stage 2 of this strand develops students’ knowledge and understanding of the properties and performance of materials and the material sciences.

History – this semester – First Contacts - students will learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples long connection to country and what life was like for them prior to European contact. Students will study and sequence chronologically the early years of European settlement, identifying and explaining the cause and effects of European settlement.

PDHPE – includes Sport (Fundamental Movement Skills), PE, Social and Emotional learning and Child Protection.

CAPA – Visual Arts, Music, Dance and Drama

Absences:
If your child is away from school due to sickness or holiday, please send a note/Dojo indicating the reason as soon as your child returns to school. If your child arrives at school after the 9am bell, a late note is required from the front office.
