Welcome to 2020 in the library.
Our first Book Fair will take place from Monday March 16 to Friday March 20. Students may visit the Book Fair at lunchtime each day as well as during their class library session. Parents are welcome to visit at lunchtime
Other dates and events to look forward to include:
- National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday 27 May. We will be reading Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas written and illustrated by Lucinda Gifford at the same time as several other schools around Australia.
-Book Week is Saturday August 22 to Friday August 28, during this time we will explore some of the award-winning books listed by the Children’s Book Council of Australia for literary merit and for outstanding contribution to Australian children's literature.
-Term 3, Book Character Parade when students and staff are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character for the day.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge opens on Monday March 2 and closes Friday August 28. Books read from August 31st 2019 may be counted towards the 2020 PRC. Throughout the challenge, students are exposed to an excellent range of quality literature. All students will be entered into the challenge and they will have time each week to read and enter books.
Weekly class lessons for Primary students will have an inquiry learning focus where students will be assisted in developing research skills, accessing and evaluating information and completing reports based on their research.
Infants classes will be exposed to a wide range of literature and literature-based activities. All classes learn about the Dewey Decimal System so that they become independent seekers of information.
All students are encouraged to borrow books for personal enjoyment to be read at home and/or in class. Please provide your child with a library bag to protect the books they borrow and encourage them to be responsible by taking care of and returning their books each week.
Happy reading,
Mrs Caroline Duke.
The best advice I ever got was that knowledge is power and to keep reading.
